The Micro and Small Enterprises Competitiveness Promotion Foundation (CENTROMYPE), is a private nonprofit organization created in 1999 at the initiative of the Government of El Salvador through the Multilateral Investment Bank and the European Union`s FOMMI II Programme. It can be found in the Registry of Nonprofit Associations and Foundations in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, under number eighteen, pages (Folios) three hundred sixty-four to three hundred seventy-seven, National Foundations` book number five..

Since its inception in 1999 until 2003 the Foundation focused its efforts on supporting marketing management efforts for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) products, linking these to demand generated by large and medium enterprises in the country as well as external buyers.

Since 2004, CENTROMYPE, after identifying additional needs, decided to include more support services to MSMEs. Thus incorporated complementary services and projects, specially focusing on training and technical assistance intended to strengthen the different areas of management (production, finance, marketing, etc.) and to improve the end products of MSMEs in order to make them more competitive. These projects have been implemented in different areas of the country, having catered to MSMEs in all of the 14 departments of El Salvador.

Today, the main support provided by CENTROMYPE to MSMEs is in the form of technical assistance and training services. These services can be provided to companies individually, collectively or in an associative manner. Under this modality, the Foundation has worked in recent years in the formation of associative groups of micro sized companies, which have been accompanied from the integration process to the implementation of productive projects. It has also driven entrepreneurial initiatives, providing training for the strengthening and development of entrepreneurial traits, profiling business, formulating business plans and technical assistance for the implementation of the new companies.

These services are complemented with business management support provided by CENTROMYPE Foundation. Also, through the organization and execution of trade fairs and business conferences, CENTROMYPE has provided access to more and better business opportunities for MSMEs. Finally, electronic tools have been created for the marketing and promotion of MSMEs. These tools include a promotional newsletters, MSME online directory and website.
